My name is Savannah Smith. I am a 2026 uncommitted graduate, attending Jefferson High School in Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia. Along with being a junior in high school, I am also taking classes at Shepherd University in the Dual Enrollment program to earn college credits. I love to study science and biology, with an intended major of marine biology! In 2023, I received the NOAA's 2023 Taking the Pulse of the Planet Award at the regional science fair for my project "How Does Temperature Affect the Velocity of the Ocean?".
Outside of school and softball, I love to spend time with friends and family. One of my favorite things to do is help with special needs kids through Varsity Club at school. In Spring 2024, I helped coach and volunteer with the Unified Sports Special Olympics. I had a great time meeting new people and spending time with others who deserve the same amount of love as everyone else, and I am so glad I get to be a part of something so special! Along with that, we also took a trip to the local fish hatchery where I was given the opportunity to teach others what I know about fishing. Another activity I love to do is volunteer at The Battery, an indoor athletic facility (and also where I go for hitting lessons). I'm so thankful to help younger children at baseball and softball camps, and teach them everything I've learned throughout my years of playing!
I am interested in extending my softball career into college. I currently play left field as my main position in softball, but am also able to play right field, and third base. I put in a lot of work outside of season to maintain my strength and agility. My freshman year I received "Offensive Play of the Year" award from my high school when I hit the sectional championship walk-off homerun against our rivals. Sophomore year I received First Team All EPAC, and The Journal's All Area Team. My junior year I received Second Team All-EPAC. I currently play for Athlete's Edge 18u, located in Greencastle, Pennsylvania. More highlights can be found on my Youtube linked at the bottom. Over the summer, I received the opportunity to be invited to play softball in the Dominican Republic for America's Team, and represent the USA. This will take place July 21-28, 2025. Blessed is an understatement for how I feel given this chance to fly overseas and play the game I love most with girls from all over the country! I am looking forward to meeting new people, experience the cultural immersion, and providing community service while I am in the DR. The cost for this trip is roughly $4,000, and I plan to do a lot of fundraising to achieve this goal such as a yard sale, selling baked goods, applying for a travel scholarship, and more - so stay tuned for these events! I also set up a donation account where all funds will go straight to my trip.
